Dear Snowflake. This secret is between us two. The only other to be allowed into the confidence is an inanimate object. The bed. 


Redefining the relationship with the bed, since the infiltration of work, screens, human exchange and non-stop access emphasises that this object has become a multi-purpose site in the age of the millennial. The relationship with this archetype has evolved to question will we ever be alone in bed with ourselves again living in this #postbed society? Prior to this project, Generation X have long dictated the conversation surrounding the bed. Now, Generation Y finds their voice. This snowflake’s perspective challenges our current notion of the bed through cultural phenomena and observations to speculate the future of the bed and the digital information that enters the private space of the domestic sphere. Through the use of digital media this project aims to make an intimate domestic object a site for public broadcast for the millennial generation. The anthological installation makes use of broadcasting, film montage, spoken word and mattress orientation assembled into a scenographic language that excludes Generation Y from the conversation they so often dictate.

On Popular Culture, Norms and ValuesCrys Leung (Communication, BA), Felicity Morris (Social Design, MA) and Lara Chapman (Design Curating and Writing, MA) in conversation with Agata Jaworska and Arif Kornweitz How do we participate, and how are we implicated, in the production and circulation of narratives that shape certain norms and values? In the project Through the Emoji Looking Glass, Lara Chapman creates an augmented tour of the Rijksmuseum, exploring cultural battles that transcend a collection of historic artworks and emoji. In Confident Face Swap, Crys Leung photoshops her face onto the models featured in the September issues of 50 years of Vogue in order to mimic the standard of beauty propagated by the magazine. In Post-Bed-Post, Felicity Morris creates a self-broadcasting bed that live streams to Instagram, turning an intimate object into a site for public broadcasting. From the supposed privacy of our bedroom to the public museum, the projects manifest various techniques of infiltrating and inhabiting mediascapes—from imitation to superimposition and augmentation—as possible modes of critical engagement and commentary.&#38;nbsp;

What: A self-broadcasting bed that live streams straight to Instagram, questioning the merging of our physical and digital identity.

Why: In the age of minimal housing, physical space is being replaced with virtual space. We work, shop and socialise online without having to leave our bed. As a reflection of contemporary society, Felicity Morris presents this intimate domestic object as a site for public broadcasting.

How: Surrounded by selfie sticks and blogger ring lights, her bed becomes the stage for a series of live streams, inviting the viewer into this private domain. The mattress acts as a green screen that can situate her anywhere whilst in bed, and the static blanket lets her show or hide as much as desired.

Soaps that encourage shared touch and hand washing in public bathrooms

“toilet etiquette requires that one adopts an attitude that resembles that of the perfectly aloneindividual”

This ingrained behaviour of ignoring each others natural bodily functions and the use of the space to do them in, is the bizarre bathroom behaviour that this project explores.Facility, removes the veil between ourselves, each other and the activites of a public bathroom. To begin to dissolve this bathroom behaviour Facility presents a change behaviour. Using an intervention to turn the public bathroom into a shared touching experience through the tactility of soap. Looking at the the social boundaries and rules we all obey, such as the avoidance of eye contact and conversation, a closed off body language and an avert reaction to noise and smell, Facility proposes how to influence and intervene these rules. Activating this space through an intervention that researches the idea that this could no longer be a private cell but now a social centre? 
Hand washing is one of the few a shared moments in a public bathroom, that and waiting in a queue. It is still a private action but a shared use of the space to engage in a hygienic necessity. To introduce the notion of sharing this action of tactility and hygiene is one that is met with repulsiveness, a loss of privacy and a juxtaposition to the space and what is known.

‘Setting The Table’ repurposes the dinning room table into a game for the family. 
An object often over looked, forgotten or misued in the busy life of a family. This table gives the experience of how the function and perception of the dining room table has changed since the 1940’s. Using a concept of self-build and target audeince of the nuclear family to personify the puzzle pieces to show how the table used to be the center of their home. Building the miniature furniture as a form of distraction to encourage family interaction and use of the dining room table as a locus once more toand bring a family together around it. 
Setting the Table encourages the family to work together to build chairs to sit at the table and then interact over building the minature dining set on the table top.&#38;nbsp;

This is a collection of research that explores the past, present and future of a.i and how it has been adapted and integrated into our society, is the subsequent move for humans to merge with a.i? Within a.i.r it is explored how a.i has been slowly incorporated as a normality of life. The notion of a.i has become a various aspect of ourselves in every sense of the meaning, but in particular the visual appearance of artificial intelligence and how this effects our relationships towards them. Examining science fiction to compare the concept of a.i to reality, how we approach them, how they are portrayed in film and media to analyse and contrast the absurd possibilities as well as the reality of the situation. Focusing on the concept of uncanny valley to investigate the position of a.i acceptability and standing among humans. Looking at past, current and future developments on this topic to speculate the proceedings of events to unfold.This poses the design question, humankind has integrated a.i into nearly every element of our daily lives…could the next step be too far?</description>
